Perennial NBA All-Star and Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis has undergone a procedure to repair a detached retina that he suffered during the 2024-25 season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Davis, who was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Mavericks as part of a blockbuster midseason trade in exchange for Luka Doncic, will reportedly be ready for training camp following the procedure.

Davis has had recurring issues with corneal abrasions after being hit in the face, such as in a November game that he was forced to leave after being poked in the eye while blocking a dunk attempt. While Davis wore goggles in high school, he has resisted using them while playing in the NBA. His eye problems have been just one of several maladies that have plagued him, as concerns over his durability resurfaced very quickly following his trade to Dallas.

After already dealing with an abdominal strain when he was dealt to the Mavericks, Davis missed more than a month after suffering a left adductor strain in his debut, contributing to the team’s complete derailment following the trade. Despite that, Davis is being counted on as a key veteran piece to help shepherd No. 1-overall pick Cooper Flagg after the Mavs earned the top pick in the NBA Draft Lottery.
